Honorees
The Ridgewood Historical Society proudly recognizes the 150th Schoolhouse Anniversary Gala, distinguished honorees: Dacey Latham, Vicky Herbert, and Joy Hamburger. Their dedication and commitment to preserving and honoring the history of our Village and the surrounding area have enriched the lives of countless individuals.
Victoria Herbert
For nearly twenty years, Vicky has been a Ridgewood Historical Society & Schoolhouse Museum member. She's been on the Board of Trustees for fifteen years, served as its vice president, and curated multiple exhibits. A resident of Ridgewood for more than 20 years, Vicky believes in "the importance of preserving our local history as a shared experience." Vicky and her husband, Tom, will retire to Massachusetts in the coming days to spend time with their beautiful granddaughter Gwendolyn.
Candace Latham
A Ridgewood resident for over 40 years, Dacey is a beloved former Ridgewood Public School teacher and librarian. She taught English at Benjamin Franklin Middle School and completed her career in education as a librarian at Travell. Since retiring, Dacey has dedicated her time to community volunteering. She has been an invaluable member of the Ridgewood Historical Society since 2006, serving as president from 2015-2019. Dacey's primary goal is to research the museum's collection in-depth and increase community awareness about the Ridgewood Historical Society and Schoolhouse Museum. In addition to her work at the Ridgewood Historical Society & Schoolhouse Museum, Dacey has been an integral part of the College Club Book Fair for nearly 20 years.
Joy Simmen Hamburger
Thirty years ago, Joy and her family moved into a historic 1860s farmhouse in Ridgewood. The home's history is so intriguing, Joy found herself at the Ridgewood Historical Society and School House Museum to learn more about the area. Since then, she has been an active member, serving on the Board of Trustees since 2009, and is the current vice president. She has curated many of the museum's exhibits, including the current display, Object Lessons. Joy and her husband, Peter, will leave their historic home in Ridgewood in the coming months and move to Amagansett, NY, to enjoy all that beach life has to offer.
