The museum is housed in a one-room schoolhouse that was built in 1872 and operated as a school until 1905. Now a museum that showcases local historic artifacts, the building is maintained by the Ridgewood Historical Society.

Originally called Public School district #45, the Schoolhouse Museum, the adjacent Old Paramus Church, and Valleau Cemetery, located across the street, are all on the National Register of Historic Places.
